Charlestown Ladies return to winning ways.
Charlestown Ladies beat Hayle Ladies 3-1 after a hard fought game at St. Mewan Park. Although both sides started brightly it was Charlestown who looked the more likely to score with the visitors keeper, Sally Buckingham, the busiest. On 28 minutes Beth Dingle beat the offside trap and broke down the right hand side, cutting in she found herself with only the keeper to beat, but Buckingham was equal to it making a good save. Charlestown forced three corners in quick succession but could not break the deadlock. On 36 minutes Dingle again broke down the right and again the keeper saved but on this occasion she could only parry the ball to Sarah Hawken who was on hand to tap in. On 44 minutes a through ball from Jodie Bray found Grace Liddicoat and he fierce shot was just wide. Charlestown almost doubled their lead on 48 minutes when Liddicoat set up Kayleigh Clemes but her shot was well saved by Buckingham. Two minutes later it was 2-0 when Hawken was again on hand to tap in after Bray had seen her shot parried by the keeper. Hayle continued to press Charlestown but with Stacey Rowe and Philippa Leaity outstanding in the centre of defence clear chances were kept to a minimum. On 62 minutes Hawken ran onto a through ball and rounding the keeper tapped in for her hat-trick. A Liddicoat corner was flicked on by Rowe and substitute Lauren Geach shot just wide. Hayle almost scored on 82 minutes when Suz Hurrell cut in from the right and her excellent goal-bound shot was well saved by Charlestown keeper Abbie Pearce. Hayle scored a consolation goal in injury time when Tanya Wells converted a penalty after Kelly Buckingham had been brought down by the Charlestown keeper. The teams meet again at St. Mewan Park next Sunday in the League Cup. |
