Quorn 3 Desborough Town 1
Tuesday, 21 August 2012
Quorn claimed their first three point haul in UCL football as they inflicted a defeat on an Ar Tarn side still looking for a win this term.
Nathan Watson's eighth minute goal had Quorn in front at the break, the midfielder volleying in a Joe Shaw centre after Tyrone Kirk's quick throw caught out the visiting defence.
Heavy home pressure went unrewarded with Richard Lavin in the visiting goal making a series of fine saves, but a rare Desborough opening was snuffed out by Shaw's goalline clearance.
In the second half home defender Dean Whiley had a header blocked on the line.
Kirk doubled the home advantage a minute before the hour mark, collecting a crossfield pass from Watson and beating two defenders before firing past Lavin at his near post.
Kris Nurse made it three for Quorn after 70 minutes, heading in a Watson centre.
Kevin Byrne earned and converted a spot kick after 78 minutes to give Desborough their consolation.
