Stewarts & Lloyds Corby 1 Long Buckby 2
Tuesday, 21 August 2012
The new look champions opened their points account for the season with this Occupation Road success.
The Foundrymen made a great start, taking the lead after six minutes when Brian Farrell's 35 yard free kick from out on the left caught Bucks keeper Shaun Allen off his line.
Ex-S&L man Danny Rogers had a shot deflected wide when the Bucks replied while fullback William Wells almost extended the home advantage following a weaving run but his cross shot went wide.
The visitors settled to play some neat football and Louis Dupree was close to a leveller with a low shot which was just wide.
In the final minutes of the half the champions squared the game. Dan Mullarkey's fine delivery from the right found Rogers whose shot was deflected onto the crossbar but Jean Debouri reacted quickest to slot home.
Sean McGillick's free kick almost caught Shaun Allen out early in the second half but the keeper recovered to tip the ball to safety.
The winning goal arrived after 62 minutes, Mullarkey dispossessed Matt Garscadden and strode clear to slot home.
Jamie O'Neill had the best opportunity to level for S&L, but his first effort was blocked and follow up saved.
