Harrowby United 2 Northampton Sileby Rangers 3
Saturday, 18 August 2012
There was opening day heartbreak for Harrowby as their ten men fell to a stoppage time Sileby winner.
The Arrows made a great start, taking a sixth minute lead after Martin Wormall was brought down by Ryan Suter, Liam Harper converting the spot kick.
Sileby fought back and Nathan Haines tested home keeper Jack Drury with a header from a David Glass free kick.
Rangers were level on 27 minutes with another penalty. Drury was caught in possession by Steve Blackwood in his own area and in the ensuing melee Seb Firman handled on the line and was red carded, Shaun Goodall scoring from the spot.
It needed a perfectly timed Dean Lukeman challenge on Lee Shaw to prevent the ten men from taking the lead, and Jack Whyley powered a header over from a corner.
Sileby took a 34th minute lead with a stunning 25 yard free kick from Mark Forbes.
Sileby continued to create opening after the restart with Goodall and Blackwood going close, but Harrowby were still very much in the game and shaw was thwarted as Jak Riley saved at the near post.
The Arrows were on terms after 73 minutes as Suter was deemed to have handled and Harper sent the keeper the wrong way with the penalty.
Phil Cassidy twice went close to restoring Sileby's lead but it seemed they had run out of time when Blckwood smashed home a loose ball three minutes into stoppage time.
