Saturday, 18 August 2007

The Millers edged out their Essex Senior League visitors at Kingsthorpe Mill where all the goals were scored in the first half.

Chris Thomas gave Clapton a first minute advantage after keeper Shaun Markie's parry but Spencer bounced back with two quickfire goals to lead. Karl Bates levelled after nine minutes, firing home from ten yards after a free kick was headed back across goal by Dan Chilton. Darren Frost gave the Millers a tenth minute lead, shooting home from 15 yards from a 60 yard pass by Chris Davies.

Thomas squared the game after 17 minutes from a corner but Scott Marshall's 37th minute penalty, awarded for a foul on Davies, proved enough to take Spencer through.

The visitors ended the game with ten men after Ryan Gateson's dismissal twelve minutes from time.

Spencer: Shaun Markie, Chris Kirby, Josh Urquhart, Simon McCarthy, Dan Chilton, Phil Cassidy, Scott Marshall, Pete Gregory, Karl Bates, Darren Frost (Matt Collins), Chris Davies (Rick Kimbell)
