Fry Colts  4    Bradley Stoke Youth  3

Sunday, 03 April 2005

Fry Colts eventually overcame Bradley Stoke to win this stop start game by 4-3. The referee broke up a flowing game by rarely allowing the advantage and most chances came from set pieces. Fry?s finally took the lead when Shane Millard turned on a lose ball and slotted past the keeper from 8 yards out. Shortly after it was 2-0 when the referee awarded Fry?s a penalty and Curtis Jack stepped up and fired straight down the middle after keeper John Bath dived to his right. Following this, there were no real chances for either side up until the break as both sets of defence stood firm. In the second half, the game continued in the same vein but Fry?s managed did increase their lead when Gary Snook collected a ball over the top of the Stoke defence and coolly lobbed the on rushing keeper. From then on Bradley Stoke battled back and their first goal came from the penalty spot when the Fry?s goal keeper fouled just inside the area, Geoff Miller stepped up and confidently fired in his 14th goal of the season. Bradley Stoke continued to pressurise, mostly with free kicks, and grabbed a second when Ben Purdy powerfully headed in an inch perfect cross from Miller. Soon Stoke made it three when a free kick from Ian Doherty found Miller at the back post and he fired across the goal and into the net. Fry?s created chances and were able to counter against Bradley Stoke?s 3-man defence but they found it difficult to get any direct shots on goal. Late in the game Fry?s regained the lead when Gary Snook scored directly from a corner, the inswinging ball passing everyone and finding its way into the top corner. Few chances fell to either side after this and the game ended with all three points going to Fry?s.
