Newport took the points on a wintry afternoon at Compton Park.

A lively start saw Rob Goldring volley against the post for the Cooks and Jack Ashton win possession to play in Rob Foster who fired wide of the target.

The Swans had only a glimmer of a first half opprtunity when Vinny Shrieves turned his marker to shoot wide.

The second half produced more in the way of chances. Drew Mitten set up Jordan Spruce for the visitors, but Darren Watts was well placed to save while at the other end Rob Foster's snap shot was saved by James Howarth at the near post.

A solo effort by Spruce after 68 minutes, the young midfielder weaving past three home defenders before firing past Watts.

Cooks pressure late on saw Foster volley just over from Ashton's free kick and Malcolm Ndekwe head over from Neil Champelovier's corner, but in time added on Watts denied Newport sub Karl Kiernan a second goal for the visitors.
