This Fernie Fields contest saw Rangers suffer a first league defeat and Rushden & Higham open their wins account.

Two summer signings from Raunds scored the visitors goals with Dave Townsend on target from close range after 24 minutes and Lee Dorrington joining him on the scoresheet on the hour with a header from a Townsend free kick.

Rangers keeper James Alger kept the margin down to two goals by saving a penalty from Rushden & Higham manager Jim Le Masurier.
