Fry Colts  2    Hengrove  7

Sunday, 09 January 2005

Fry Colts inconsistent form continues as they lost to Hengrove 7 - 2 on pitch badly affected by the rain. Frys took an early lead through Lee Dark in what was to be a high scoring match. Hengrove fought back with a goal from Gary Shorney, when he stuck home from 25 yards. The goal had been coming, as Hengrove had two earlier strikes ruled out for offside. Frys retook the lead when the Hengrove defence struggled to clear their lines, and Shane Rossiter struck home from no more than 4 yards out. With Hengrove putting Frys under a fair amount of pressure as half time approached, Ricky Nelmes was felled in the area, and a penalty was awarded. Andrew Green stepped up for Hengrove and coolly finished, making the score line 2-2 at the break. The rain continued to fall and the pitch became heavier which made it harder for Hengrove to pass the ball around, but a great move involving numerous players allowed Jon Readings to put Hengrove back on top at 3-2. Andy Robins was called upon moments later and pulled off a great save, as he tipped a goal bound shot over the bar. The last 20 minutes saw Hengrove take control of the game as they played some wonderful pass and move football, pulling the Frys defence all over the pitch. A through ball from Marcus Purnell was coolly finished by Matt Readings, and minutes later Matt Readings laid a telling pass for Dale Rhodes to run onto and finish into the far corner of the net. Jon Readings scored A fifth goal, and Dale Rhodes set up Matt Readings to score his second of the game, with a little help from a Fry's defender. The game was played in the right spirit and was well refereed.
