Daventry Town  3    Boston Town  1

Saturday, 02 February 2008

Daventry outlined their Premier potential as they knocked holders Boston Town out of the Knockout Cup at Communications Park.

Defender Adie Greatrex gave the lower grade pacesetters a second minute advantage, heading in from ten yards and they went further ahead after 24 minutes thanks to Tom Berwick's 20th goal in domestic football this term, the marksman rounding Poachers keeper James Doughty to slot home.

The Poachers were back in the hunt two minutes later through debutant Gary Nimmo, who tapped in after a shot from fellow newcomer Matthew Kennedy rebounded from the foot of the post, but Danny Nelson sealed Daventry's win seven minutes into the second half, rounding off a flowing build up.

Daventry: Joe Mellings, Luke Walker, Tom James, Chris Godwin, Ady Greatrex, Paul Saunders (Nik Maund), Ryan Byrne (Paul Atkins), Adam Confue, Tom Berwick, Danny Nelson, Richard Wesley (Tim Orford).

Boston: James Doughty, Nick Lovelace (Greg Brown), Matt Price, Leigh Taylor, Shaun Baker, Mark Foster, Laszlo Lovas, Paul Goodhand, Gary Nimmo, Gary Bull, Matthew Kennedy.
