Deeping Rangers 4 Wootton Blue Cross 2
Saturday, 26 January 2008
Champions Deeping outgunned struggling Wootton in an entertaining Outgang Road encounter.
Blue Cross keeper Dan Rogers made a series of good stops to thwart Danny Matson, and Richard Thompson while Matson also struck the woodwork before Deeping made a 32nd minute breakthrough, Matson springing the offside trap to run clear and slot home.
Rangers doubled their advantage five minutes into the second half when Keith French fouled Matson and Michael Stevenson converted the spot kick.
Wootton were back in the game after 54 minutes when a mazy run by Nick Love set up Craig Daniel who fired into the top right hand corner from the left hand side of the box.
A fingertip save from Danny Bircham in the home goal denied Love a leveller but Deeping strengthened their hold on the game after 79 minutes. Lee Ellison won possession in midfield before feeding Matson on the left and the striker cut inside before beating Rogers from the edge of the box.
Love was again narrowly off target when Wootton replied but Deeping sealed victory six minutes from time when Richard Thompson chased down an underhit back pass and lobbed the ball home.
Wootton's contribution was rewarded by a second goal, Love scoring from the spot after 88 minutes.
