Eynesbury Rovers 4 Irchester United 1
Saturday, 12 January 2008
New Rovers manager Al Lenihan made it two wins out of two with a victory in his first home match at the Eynesbury helm.
The home side took control in the first half taking a 26th minute lead through Ian Dawkes who scored with a low shot after debutant Sam Kingston set up the chance.
Gary Evans hit the bar for Irchester but Jamie Graham's double late in the half left Rovers in charge. Graham scored a 43rd minute penalty after being fouled by Craig Sturgess and he netted his third goal in two games, a shot from the edge of the box, in the final minute of the half.
Gary Evans replied for Irchester in the first minute of the second half but that was as good as it got for the Romans who squandered the opportunity to get back into the game when Danny Workman brought down Evans. The Rovers keeper made amends by saving Dave Maguire's spot kick.
Stuart Humphreys completed the home tally five minutes from time, converting a Kingston centre.
