The Tulips found their goal touch as the beleagured Romans crashed to another heavy defeat.

Simon Mowbray opened the scoring after eight minutes with a fine finish from a Danny French cross.

Rob Hughes added a second Spalding goal six minutes later, tapping in after Romans keeper Hugo Fernandes tipped a Mowbray header onto the bar.

Goals from Greg Smith who outjumped Fernandes to head in on 31 minutes and French who swept home a Jamaal Shahin cross sixty seconds later settled the outcome.

Irchester then lost Fernandes through injury.

Shahin added number five in the first minute of the second half with the best goal of the afternoon, a curling shot from 20 yards.

Smith took his Tulips tally to five in two games with further goals after 58 minutes, a lobbed effort, and 74 minutes, a header from a Hughes centre.
