Saturday, 08 September 2007

Rushden & Higham broke their goal drought but found themselves outgunned by free scoring Town at Hayden Road.

Ian Symington netted the merged club's first ever league goal after nine minutes but their lead proved shortlived with Richard Wesley equalising just two minutes later from a Danny Nelson pass.

A strong Town finish to the half saw Nelson hit the bar and Danny Finlay punish a defensive error to give them a 39th minute lead  which was extended three minutes later by Tom Berwick who turned smartly on the edge of the box to fire home with his left foot.

Wesley ran onto a goal kick to score his second goal from just inside the box eleven minutes into the second half, settling the contest in Daventry's favour with Jim Le Masurier netting a penalty consolation after 85 minutes following a foul by Todd Sawko.
