St Ives Town 4 Northampton Spencer 3
Tuesday, 11 December 2007
Spencer suffered their first reverse in six outings as the Saints found the key to unlock the top flight's meanest defence.
Graeme Thackray put St Ives in front after just six minutes after good work by Jamie Blackwell, but the Millers responded with a 20th minute leveller from Ashley Bradshaw.
Two goals in two minutes early in the second half put the Saints in control. Liam Kennett restored their advantage four minutes into the second period with Thackray the provider and Scott Fielding scored a third for the home side after 51 minutes, volleying in Kennett's cross.
Kevin Slinn closed the gap a minute past the hour mark but Fielding's second goal from Blackwell's pass after 74 minutes restored the two goal margin.
Darren Frost again cut the deficit to a single goal two minutes from time but St Ives held on to complete a double.
