Shawbury United 2 Cogenhoe United 1
Saturday, 08 December 2007
It was a tale of two penalties in Shropshire as a late spot kick sent Cogenhoe crashing to defeat against lower grade Shawbury who enhanced their reputation for springing surprises with this success.
Craig Stewart's 17th minute opener for Shawbury from 20 yards was cancelled out by Zac Nedimovic in the second minute of the second half and thereafter Cogenhoe seemed to have the momentum with them.
The Cooks were awarded a 70th minute penalty but Rob Foster's kick was brilliantly saved by home custodian Damien Stevens. The save gave Shawbury a new lease of life and with eleven minutes to play Tom Reynolds was brought down and Mark Stallard's spot kick won the tie for the West Midlands League side.
