Saturday, 28 January 2012

Cogenhoe suffered a first defeat in eight games as the Poachers shaded a close contest at Tattershall Road.

Chances were at a premium in the first half.

Matt Gearing fired over for Cogenhoe after Dan Burke and Karl Bates replied while at the other end Nick Brown collected a Shane Clancy pass and rounded keeper Dean Love only to be thwarted by a goalline clearance from Alex Deakin.

Late in the half Brown fired wide of the target from a Gary Bull centre.

Love denied Bull on resumption after the veteran campaigner had taken a return pass from Lorand Borbely.

Boston took a 56th minute lead when Love failed to get distance on his clearing punch and Borbely fired into the top corner.

Mark Foster had a volley deflected to safety and Borbely charged down a clearance only to fire wide of the far post as Boston sought to seal the win.

Cogenhoe pushed forward late on, but Chris Wright saved well from a Bates volley and Gearing fired over from a Bates lay off.
