St Ives Town  4    Boston Town  2

Tuesday, 04 September 2012

St Ives moved two points clear at the top with this win, but they were given a scare by previously unbeaten Boston.

Star striker Conor Washington was absent after getting injured warming up, but his side went on to show their range of firepower.

Will Fordham scored the Saints' thirteenth minute opener from close range, Lee Ellison the provider.

The home lead was doubled after 40 minutes with a 25 yard strike from Karl Gibbs - his sixth goal of the season.

When Jon Stead's volley against the frame of the goal culminated in Ollie Pinner's 55th minute own goal St Ives looked home and dry.

A resilient Poachers outfit battled their way back into contention though.

Matt Barber's 63rd minute close range finish gave the visitors a toe hold in the game, and seven minutes later they were awarded a spot kick for Dan Newman's challenge on Josh Ford who then fired against the post from the penalty.

Sam Kirton's left footed shot cut the deficit further after 76 minutes.

Saints nerves were eased three minutes into time added when new recruit Ben Walshe set up Scott Fielding to seal the home success.
