Quorn 8 Irchester United 2
Saturday, 01 September 2012
Irchester had few answers as the league newcomers ran riot at Farley Way.
The Romans surprised their hosts with Barry McKenna's second minute goal, a low shot into the corner, but Tyrone Kirk levelled after 25 minutes with a free kick which Kame Lynch got a hand to but could not keep out.
Quorn led at the interval with a 35th minute goal from Nathan Watson who took a return pass from Luke Edwards to slot home.
Kirk scored his second goal four minutes into the second half, again direct from a free kick.
Kris Nurse took centre stage with an eleven minute hat trick, netting after 57, 66 and 68 minutes. The first of his three was a header from a Kirk free kick, his second another header from Watson's delivery and his third was set up by Watson's mazy run.
With eight minutes remaining Martin Mitchell scored an Irchester consolation, netting from ten yards after intercepting a wayward pass.
An immediate home response saw Lee Sutton take the Quorn tally to seven on 83 minutes with a header from a Kirk centre and Danny Marshall rounded off the scoring two minutes from time after stealing forward unnoticed from defence.
