Round 1

Rushden & Higham United  2    Northampton ON Chenecks  2

Tuesday, 30 October 2007

Chenecks overcame their Division One rivals on penalties after twice cancelling out the home side's lead.

A twentieth minute effort from Steve Ainge, a header from a Gary Broadway centre, had Rushden & Higham in front at the interval but Steve Allen's 56th minute spot kick for Chenecks squared the tie. The visitors were reduced to ten men by Ciaran White's dismissal twenty minutes from time.

Dave Townsend restored Rushden & Higham's lead ten minutes into extra time and the home side proceededto squander further openings to wrap up the tie. Their wastefulness was punished as with just one minute of the additional half hour remaining Danny Webster scored a second equaliser for the visitors.

Townsend was the only home marksman in the shootout with Vinny Maye, Nathan Cook and goalkeeper Ben Garratt netting for Chenecks.
