Stotfold 7 Potton United 2
Saturday, 01 September 2007
Stotfold's sizeable contingent of former Potton players enjoyed a win over their previous club with three featuring on the scoresheet in his derby tie at Roker.
It was Potton who struck first, Shilbu Miah netting with a volley after just eight minutes, but the scores were level at the interval thanks to Joel Mason's close range equaliser on the quarter hour.
Stotfold quickly gained the upper hand on resumption with Paul Garrett becoming the first ex-Royal on the scoresheet after fifty minutes as he fired a free kick into the top corner. Six minutes later Ian Morrison added the third for Stotfold following a short corner and the contest was wrapped up by a three goal burst in the space of six minutes.
Mason scored his second goal of the afternoon after 70 minutes, punishing a goalkeeping error, with Garrett following suit sixty seconds later after rounding Neil Walton in the Potton goal to tap in. Substitute Bobby Dance made it six after 76 minutes, converting a Garrett pass with his first touch before Tom Beech scored a Potton consolation from close in five minutes from the end.
Lee Allinson became the third former Potton man to score against his old club in the final minute, heading in a Ryan Nicholl centre.
