Blackstones  3    Cogenhoe United  2

Saturday, 20 October 2007

Stones held off a stirring late Cogenhoe fightback to edge this battle of two sides in top form.

Phil Stebbing gave Blackstones a 54th minute advantage and they went further in front with a Kevin Ainslie free kick from 30 yards eight minutes later.

When Stebbing scored his second with just eleven minutes remaining Stones looked home and dry, but Rob Foster's 17th goal of the season two minutes later gave the Cooks a glimmer of hope. James Allcock's shot, helped in by Paul Sheehan, made it an anxious finale for Stones but they held on to make it nine league and cup games without defeat.
