History: After the demise of Wellingborough Town, one of England's oldest clubs, in 2001, football enthusiasts in the town reformed the Doughboys in 2004. The club spent its comeback campaign in the Northants Senior Youth League before an application to join the Eagle Bitter UCL was approved by the Football Association.
After losing just once in the 2005-06 season the Doughboys won promotion to the Premier Division as Division One runners-up, and a memorable season was capped by success in the Northants Junior Cup. Wellingborough beat holders Peterborough Northern Star 2-0 in the final at Sixfields Stadium.
In the Premier Division the Doughboys proved title contenders from the off, eventually finishing third. Off the field a series of improvements saw the ground handed a Southern League grading.
