History:
The club was formed in 1900 as Yaxley Rovers and were founder members of the Peterborough League in 1902. The Hunts Junior Cup was won in 1907 but otherwise the club's early history has not been well documented. It is known that the Yaxley club played in the Peterborough League 1st Division in the 1920s.
In 1951 Yaxley won the Peterborough League 2nd Division title but they were relegated later in the decade and in the early sixties the club ceased activity. In 1964 Yaxley rejoined the Peterborough League and their rise up the ladderr started with the 3rd Division South title in 1969. Promotion from Division Two followed in 1972 and three successive second places followed in Division One, with a place in the Peterborough Premier Division secured in 1975.
The Cuckoos embarked on a golden age in their history. They won the championship in 1977 and 1984 and were runners-up in 1975, 1976, 1978, 1981 and 1983. More impressive still the won the Hunts Senior Cup in 1975, 1976, 1983 and 1984 and the Peterborough Senior Cup in 1978 and 1984.
In 1988 Yaxley joined the newly formed Eastern Counties League 1st Division but after four years inadequate facilities forced their departure. A move to the Hunts League followed and in 1993 the Cuckoos moved to Leading Drove. A final day defeat cost them promotion to the UCL, but in 1995 Yaxley became the first champions of the shortlived West Anglia League and made the step up.
With floodlights newly installed at the Leading Drove ground Yaxley were promoted to the Premier Division in 1997 as Division One champions. The Cuckoos have enjoyed considerable cup success winning the Hunts Senior Cup in 1999 and landing both the Hunts Senior and Hinchingbrooke Cups in 2004. Twelve months later the Cuckoos won the top three Huntingdonshire Cup competitions, the Premier, Senior and Scott-Gatty Cups, the latter won by the reserves for a third season in succession.
The Cuckoos had a memorable 2005-06 season winning both the League Knockout and Hunts Premier Cups.
