The club was founded in 1960, playing on the Rockingham Road park in Kettering under the name Kettering Park Wanderers. Entry to league football in the Kettering Amateur League brought instant success as Division Two champions, and by the middle of the decade Park Wanderers were competing in the top flight. The senior side were 1963 Lower Junior Cup runners up to Woodford United while the Reserves were Area Cup winners in 1966.
In 1968 Park Wanderers joined the newly formed Third Division of the UCL. They finished third in the league and won the Knockout Cup, beating British Timken Reserves in the final. A year later Park Wanderers were promoted as runners up to Long Buckby.
The present name was adopted following a relocation to Burton Latimer in 1971. The club played on the town's recreation ground before switching to the present Latimer Park venue. The 70s highlight saw the club reach the Northants Junior Cup final in 1975, but three years later they were relegted from Division One.
After being forced to apply for re-election to the league in 1983 fortunes improved and Burton reached a Wellingborough Charity Cup final later in the decade losing 2-0 to Rushden. On 1989 Burton finished Division One runners-up to Ramsey and were promoted to the Premier for the first time. They were also semi-finalists in the Knockout Cup and runners up to Potton in the Benevolent Cup.
Top flight football lasted just two seasons with the best Division One finish since relegation sixth in 1993. There were places in the Desborough Charity Cup in both 1997 and 2000, Burton losing to the host club on each occasion, but things have been a struggle in the new millenium as Park Wanderers finished at the foot of the league table on five successive occasions from 2002 to 2006.
The 2009-10 season was spent ground sharing with Rothwell Town but the club has now returned to Latimer Park.
