The club was formed as Newport Pagnell Wanderers in 1963, initially playing as a youth side. The first games were played on Bury Field Common with changing rooms at the Cannon Public House in Union Street.

Wanderers progressed to the Morth Bucks League, winning the 3rd division at the first attempt. With the town's other club Aston Martin folding, an influx of players saw Newport win successive Division Two and Division One titles before a hat trick of Premier crowns. Newport won the Stantonbury Cup in 1967 and 1970 and derby matches against the likes of Towcester and Yardley Gobion attracted big crowds.

In 1972 Newport joined the South Midlands League, playing at the Youth Club facilities in Wolverton Road before moving to the current Willen Road ground. With the relocation came a change of name from Wanderers to Town, and in 1973 Newport joined the UCL.

In 1976 Newport won promotion to Division One as runners-up and werealso finalists in the Division Two cup. They won the Division One Knockout Cup in 1978, beating Irchester in the final, and in 1982 they lost just one game in carrying off the Division One title. The Swans also won the Stantonbury Cup that season.
Newport have enjoyed a yo-yo existence in the top flight. In their debut campaign they drew 17 of their 34 matches and were Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup runners-up, but relegation followed in 1986. It took six years for Newport to regain Premier status as they finished runners-up to Harrowby in 1992. Success was plentiful in cup football, with the Stantonbury Cup captured five times in six seasons.

Again Newport's stint in the top flight was shortlived but in 2002 they returned after storming to their second Division One crown and adding the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup to their silverware haul. Back in the Premier Newport enjoyed their best ever top flight season, finishing runners-up to Holbeach after topping the table for most of the season.

In 2007-08 the Swans reached the final of the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy for the first time losing by a single goal to Beaconsfield. Another fine season in 2008-09 saw the Swans finish third in the Premier and again finish runners up in the county competition.
Another fine campaign in 2009-10 saw Newport beat Reading Town 6-2 to win the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy and reach the UCL Knockout Cup final losing 2-1 to St Ives. Twelve months later they made it back to back successes in the county competition.
