Club History
There was a Kimberley Town football club members of the Nottingham Football
league, well before the turn of the century. reports in the Nottingham Evening
Post tell of a match on the 4th December 1886, when in the Nottinghamshire
County Cup. Nottingham Forest beat Kimberley Town in the Second Round of
that competition 7-0. Kimberley Town had beaten Basford Pioneers in the
First round 2-0. Indeed the Stags featured in the FA Cup from 1892 until
1907/08 and thir most notable achievement in the competition was to reach
the 3rd Quaifying Round, where they lost to leicester Fosse 3-0. The earliest
note we have of Kimberley YMCA, forerunner of Kimberley Town , is that they
were winners of the Notts Intermediate Cup in 1915. However they disbanded
in 1928 and were not re-formed until 1947/48 when they played friendlies.
in their first competition, the Notts Amateur League, Kimberley were Senior
Knockout Cup winners and Division One runners up in 1954 and then Divsion
One Champions in 1955. Their next venture was to the Central Alliance League
Division Two and within a year they took on the title of Kimberley Town.
The club became Founder members of the Central Midlands Supreme Division,
but after 4 seasons was demoted to the Premier Division for not having floodlights.
Good fortune in the shape of benefactor Russell Penney brought floodlights
and a social club to the Stag ground. In May 2001 the club changed hands
and a new youth policy was set up to bring quality players in to the club
at reserve and first team level. This has now been acheived and the club
is now going forward.
